SNITCH: 33 Hector Xavier Monsegur "Sabu" of NY.

Image
By Underground America Inc.

According to the FBI, you're looking at Sabu, the head of LulzSec, and the de facto King of Anonymous—easily the most notorious and influential hacker alive today. One thing: he just turned in his people to the police.

The name Sabu should be familiar: as part of LulzSec, a potent offshoot of Anonymous, he masterminded legendary attacks against the CIA, FBI, Sony, and numerous other corporate and government targets. He was their Captain Hook.

That was before. Fox News reports the shadowy hack deity is not only confirmed to be unemployed 32-year-old New Yorker Hector Xavier Monsegur, but that Sabu has been "collaborating with the government for months," leading to a string of arrests around the world.

Suge Knight- getting it correct

Image
By Alex A. Alonso, Streetgangs

There has been an abundance of coverage connected to Suge Knight’s most recent legal matter related to an incident that occurred in Compton. Knight visited the lunch set of the film Straight Outta Compton, uninvited and started a verbal altercation with Cle “Bone” Sloan who had been working as part of the film crew since last year. Just by coincidence, the two men crossed paths at Tam’s Burgers while Sloan was driving back to the set from the lunch location when Sloan noticed that Knight was parked in his truck on 142nd Street talking to two friends.

The high profile nature of the story has both the corporate news companies and the independent bloggers all competing for ratings, views and clicks which has led to a narrative that is mired with inaccuracies and misinformation that has confused the general public on what the facts are. The rush to meet a writing deadline and to beat the next publication has led to some irresponsible reporting. …

Standard operating procedure

“The family had become in effect an extension of the Thought Police. It was a device by means of which everyone could be surrounded night and day by informers who knew him intimately.” George Orwell, 1984

It was doomed to fail from the very beginning because it's a double standard, because it provides exactly the wrong incentives. It provides incentives for snoops and snitches under this policy. Dixon Osburn

In capital murder cases, snitches are the No. 1 factor, being present in 45 percent of wrongful convictions identified since 1976. When I define snitch, by the way, I don't mean just anybody who's in jail, but anybody who has an incentive to testify a certain way. Rob Warden

I understand that prosecutors need to encourage snitches to snitch, but these sentences simply cannot be reconciled with fairness, and they create overwhelming incentives for snitches to fabricate evidence against superiors, which is exactly what happened in this ca…

Who’s a Rat?

Image
By Underground America Inc.

The confidentiality of informants is of primary concern in law enforcement operations. Informant identities must remain undisclosed to protect them and to preserve the service they provide. However, a Web site called Who’s a Rat?

(whosarat.com) reveals identities of informants and their law enforcement agents. Through the site’s database, visitors can contribute information about local police, federal agents, and police informants. According to an Austin Chronicle article, the site’s founder, Sean Bucci, said, “Every month, nearly 100,000 Americans are arrested on drug charges. . . . [I]nformants . . .often tell outright lies in an effort to get their own criminal charges or sentences reduced.” A contributor to the Web site, Brian Drake, commented, “If the state is going to have databases on us, it seems only fair that we can have a database of agents and informers as a tool for defense attorneys and defendants.”
